Unless you have been living on a Rock or are new to Core-Exiles you will be aware that the Genesis Project is well under way. In-fact although you're all working on different project locations the overall base value of donations to the the project is now close to 7 Billion Credits! Remember that's based on Joe's base price so in real terms that's a LOT more.

We have remained fairly tight lipped about what you will be able to do when the first Project is completed but rest assured it will be well worth the challenge of completing the task ahead. This will knit in nicely with the coming Level Six behemoth that will release Level Six Sets, Ship Building, Starbase Building and of course Corporations.

But lets not get ahead of ourselves...

When the Genesis Projects are completed one by one the devices will be fired and a few weeks later a newly formed planet ready for settlers. But before we can do this we will need names for these planets.

So this is a competition to make your mark in Core-Exiles, one that will remain in game for all time.

    Name the Genesis Planets!

Of course as with all our competitions it comes with award wining rules and Prizes.

    Rules
#1 No more than 10 names per person.
#2 Planet names may NOT contain players names or Guild Names
#3 Names must be unique and not already in use.
#4 One entry per Captain (10 names in one post)
#5 Post off topic or not following the above rules will be removed.

    Prizes
If chosen as a winner you will be able to claim the following

#1 6 Month Premium Account Upgrade
    #2 5K Fuel Ticket

Special : The winning entries taken will also have the captains name included in the planet bio when the bio for the planet is created. This means your Captains name will become wrapped up in the planets history for all time.

    Drawing & Closing
The competition will run till Midnight on the 30th of April. The winners will be drawn by Myself and Prev.

To win you only have to have one name drawn from your selected post. This name will go into a pot of names we will use exclusively for the forth coming Genesis Planets. An affix of 'Gx' will be added to each planet in turn so it can be identified in the order it was created. IE Planet-name G1 - relating to the name of the FIRST Genesis Planet.

As a new project location will be chosen as each Genesis Project is completed there will always be Five Projects on the go at all times.

To me the most interesting names are those with stories or reasons behind them rather than just names drawn from Gods, virtues or fantasy creatures, for instance the way Astronomers in the 16th century named the newly discovered moons of Uranus Puck and Titania after characters from Shakespears at that point newly published play.

So, assuming this isn't too much outside the comp rules, I'll offer some names with a one sentence reason for each. if any are chosen, hopefully the reasons can be expanded into the location bio.

    Overdraft.

A joke based on the amount of money needed to be poured into the genesis project.

    Pin wheel.

An abnormality in the planets gravitational axis gives an unusually fast period of rotation, making for days and nights just an hour long.

    Honeymoon.

Two of the genesis staff who met during the project were married on the planet when it was completed.

    Green fingers.

Some clever tinkering with the atmosphere leads to unusually strong levels of sunlight, making plants grow at accellerated rate.

    Jinks.

Mechanical failure, illness, exploding asteroids, everything that could go wrong did during this planets' creation.

    Black ball.

huge levels of seacoal and carbon deposites in the sand lead to this world being almost entirely covered by vast, jet black deserts.

    HAng over.

A slightly over enthusiastic party among the genesis staff the night before the project was completed lead to this uninspired name.

    Vampire.

A high concentration of red cloud gives the world a synister, blood red appearence from orbit.

    Memorial.

A name given to commemorate the desasterous crash of a full passenger liner into the newly forming planet.

    Midnight oil.

unusual gravitational flux in this system meant creation of this planet was harder than usual, requiring the genesis team to spend many long nights slaving over calculations.

I like dark empathy's idea of a story behind each one. :)

Misty - Beautiful mists hang in the valleys and forests with the dawn and dusk. The atmosphere and location to the planet's star makes the colors one of the most spectacular known.

Servitude - This rocky planet is able to support life but not without exacting a harsh punishment on the inhabitants. This planet's use is speculated to be for sending criminals and and indentured servants to slave away in the harsh heat.

Yakker - A stranded group of pirates with a known penchant for idle chatter set up a colony here without knowing that it soon would become a popular resort planet with it's abundant wildlife and beautiful oceans.

Vexation - Due to a constant changing of the planets electromagnetic field and also gravity, this planet causes many machinery and engineering works to wind up in error. It is not just a few that have torn their hair out in vexation over this.

Ekspi - With harsh winds and a heavily metallic atmosphere this poisonous planet is not a first choice for a beginning explorer. Although uninhabitable in it's current form, the planet is extremely rich in rare resources that many eagerly long to tap into. Ekspi is speculated to be an alien word of unknown meaning.

Kyos - Searing heat and screaming storms make this dessert world unbearable even aside from it's extremely corrosive atmosphere. Sands swirl angrily into tornadoes and the terrain explodes in various places due to the eruption of gases and molten metals below the surface. The planet is well named as Kyos is an alien word meaning roughly "Death Storm".

Dagget's Realm - Captain Wayne Dagget, a fearless flyer and navigator was the first to set camp on this well watered landscape. Many seas and rivers split the continents into various shapes and sizes.

Wevenau - Forests and swamps stretch across the mountainous planet casting a variety of deep greenish hues to the surface. Countless forms of strange animal and plant lifeforms, many poisonous, make their home here. Several indigenous tribes and cultures live peacefully in this beautiful world. It seems to have much to offer in the way of medicine. Wevenau is one of the cultural people's word for "Evening Swamp"

Nova Launch - At a perfect distance from it's star and other planets this planet is a center for exploration and space study. Many new forms of aircraft are tested and launched at this site.

Nohyo East - Nobody knows if there was ever a Nohyo West but this wintery wonderland is a hot spot for ski and snowboarding tourists. Very few planets have the perfect wintery conditions and mountains to have a year long ski party but this is it.

    1. Genesis - why shouldn't the first planet be named after the project?
    2. Exodus - okay a little lame, but it is another way of saying let's get out of here en masse.

    1. Sundiata - This planet is named after the chief engineer of the Genesis Project for this specific system, Sundiata Varsmarle. His vision for the system's newest planet was that it become a resort planet for all levels of Exile society. The planet's four continents are situated two in the northern hemisphere and two in the southern hemisphere. The areas closest to the equator on each continent are lushly forested with a tropical climate, with more temperate climates further from the equator. Except for the ice caps at the north and south polar areas, none of the lands experience temperatures lower than -4C. Highs at the equator get as high as 40C, and there are no deserts.

    2. Temujin- This planet, consisting mostly of hilly plains which are sparsely forested (except at the equator, where trees abound) and shallow seas (the deepest being no more than 1 kilometer from surface to bottom at its deepest point) is considered to be perfect for livestock herding. The few major rivers extant on the planet preclude large-scale permanent settlement, and the landscape is reminiscent of the Central Asian steppe of Old Earth. The name is in honor of a 12th-13th Century Mongolian nomadic ruler who went on to found the largest land-based empire Old Earth had ever seen before the unification of the 22nd Century.

    3. Ahuitzotl- The largest continent on this planet consists of mountains and valleys, with plains on its coasts. Seas are deep, dropping off hundreds of meters only meters from the coastlines, and most of the remaining land consists of small to mid-sized islands. The chief engineer, Ahuitzotl (pronounced Ah-hueet-ZOE-tle) Nunez de Mejica, felt that this Genesis Project creation reminded him of his ancient Mexica forefathers' empire in the Valley of Mexico of Old Earth.

    4. Stauffenberg- The chief engineer and descendant of an ancient Earth noble house, Gerhard Claus von Stauffenberg (named in honor of his famous ancestor who tried to assassinate one of Old Earth's worst tyrants) decided to name the planet after his family. The rest of the staff felt that it was appropriate to honor such, and the name has stayed on. Stauffenberg was also the first to set foot on the planet after its completion. The planet has three major continents, the largest with a shape resembling ancient Germany c. 1937 A.D. on the Old Earth Gregorian calendar.

    5. Biafra- This heavily forested world reminds one of the forest belt that once ran across the Old Earth continent of Africa. The project leaders in this system engineered the planet so that it would be suitable for animals whose natural habitats would be similar to those found on that Old Earth continent. Besides forest, which covers about 70 percent of the planet's land, there are also wide savanna and three major mountain ranges that run through the center of each of the three continents. Seas take up only 27 percent of the planet's surface, but the seas are deep, some running to more than 9km at their deepest point.

    6. Nebraska- This planet's land areas are rather flat, reminding the Genesis Project engineers of the North American Plains region of Old Earth. Temperatures range from -10C to 44C, depending on where on the planet one is. The landforms do have a number of significant rivers running through them, and with no high mountains to speak of (the highest elevation on the planet is only 400M above Sea Level), planet Nebraska is a potential "breadbasket" for the quadrant.

    7. Aethiopia Nouae- Aethiopia Nouae (New Ethiopia) comes across as something of a joke. The Genesis Project engineers assigned to work on creating this planet decided to seed the device with various plant life, among which they implanted the seeds for the plants from which Coffee and Cola are derived. This world is a mix of savanna plains, mixed tropical and sub-tropical forest and rugged highlands in a mix of 20%, 27% and 53%, respectively. Seas cover about 65% of the planet's surface, and the coastlines of the four continents sport white sand beaches near the equator, brown and black sand beaches further north, and rocky shore closer to the poles.

    8. New Westfield- A world very much resembling the New England region of Old Earth in landforms, New Westfield got its name in a rather random fashion: The project engineers for this planet took a holo-globe of Old Earth, spun it and then used the "stop spin button" to halt the inset window at a random continent. The continent was North America. They then took a holomap and repeated the process, narrowing down until they ended up in the Westfield section of the ancient city of Springfield in Massachusetts. The planet's single continent accounts for 34% of the planet's surface, with islands ranging in size from Midway to Greenland on Old Earth in a winding belt stretching away from the coasts along the equator between the planet's "tropics" lines. With many rivers, mid-altitude hills and mountains, and a variety of shoreline types, New Westfield does have something for everyone.

    9. Babushka- Cold and snowy in its northern and southern thirds, Babushka reminded many of Old Earth's North Russia and Siberia regions. Six of the eight continents lie in the northern and southern thirds, with two continents straddling the equator. Even there, temperatures do not rise above 25C. The mean planetary temperature is 6C, and most of the planet is unsuitable for large-scale agriculture. As a result, food will have to be brought in for any major settlement to survive, though the planet abounds in mineral resources such as Boron, Plasteel, and Refined Tryonite. In the far northern reaches of the northern three continents, there is even a chance of finding Dyzalithium Fuel.

    10. Sttesuhcassam- Another "gag" name for a Genesis Project planet, Sttesuhcassam is the Old Earth region of "Massachusetts" spelled backwards. Of all the Genesis Project planets thus far, this is the one most resembling Old Earth in climates and topography. There are nine continents, two of which sit in the planet's polar regions. The seven remaining continents sit in a configuration that is remarkably similar to that of Old Earth's six inhabited continents, expect that the largest of them is no larger than the Old Earth continent of South America. The seven continents NOT in the polar regions sport various climates and topographies. The areas closest to the planet's equator have climates much like that of Old Earth's equatorial regions. Mountains, strangely, are all ranged on the western sides of the continents, with broad plains and forests further east on the continents, until gradually reaching the eastern coastlines. On every one of the seven "Middle" continents, the eastern coasts have beaches of various sand compositions, while the western coastlines consist mostly of rocky shores and cliffs.
