So it's the end of the day and you decide to some pirate hunting for an hour, now you know it is unlikely you will be back in game for about 17 hours.
Is it right to lock the wrecks when there is a high probably that you might not be back in time to salvage them?

Its not really an issue of right vs wrong, rather, its a indicator of your community spirit and generousity.

Eh, I never lock my wrecks. They're easy enough to make imho so really no point in locking them.
Anyone looking for free wrecks to salvage should follow me around sphere/VP. I tend to leave lots of wrecks in Veryst, Rhad and Phidarin Sphere. :)

What Squirt said. I shoot a couple or three hundred ships a day when I can.

Current Location: Asteroid in Zercry, Furnace.

    Salvagers are welcome to them.

As to the morality of it? I don't think that applies. They are your wrecks, do with them what you will. If it does give you a twinge of guilt, then change your lock out to Guild rather than Personal. For my own part, I think it is a waste of a shot to put any lock on them at all. YMMV.

I never lock mine.........I shoot a bunch of ships and leave 'em........This especially makes Salvagers in the Expanse happy :D ......When I feel like Salvaging, I'll put a few in the air for myself

I don't lock mine either, but as far as those that do, I have no problem with that they spent the time to blow them up and spent the resources or credits to repair their ship. which trickles down to those that craft repair kits for us all :)
